When Yuliya Kusher, founder, CEO, and chief designer of SOLO for Diamonds, introduced the brand the Ukrainian lab-grown diamond executive chose a name that reflected her vision for its aesthetic. “I called it SOLO because the most important part is the stone. Cutting edge tech: Kyiv’s synthetic diamond industry expands

Lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled environments using a variety of methods. They possess the same chemical, physical and optical traits as mined diamonds and are often used for industrial applications, including defence purposes. Al Jazeera’s Alex Gatopoulos gained access to a diamond factory in Kyiv and he reports. Despite the war Ukraine has still the ability to surprise the world with its innovative technologies, particularly in the field of growing diamonds. This technology not only highlights the country’s scientific potential but also demonstrates its capacity to implement modern solutions in traditional industries. Thanks to Ukrainians the world gains access to high-quality and ethically sourced gemstones.

Julia Kusher, CEO, founded SOLO for Diamonds, a Ukrainian jewelry brand specializing in fine jewelry made with lab-grown diamonds. SOLO uses Ukrainian lab-grown gems. Jewelry designers can use lab-grown diamonds in many ways, but Kusher wanted her designs to be different. Instead of using gold, SOLO uses bio-resin, which is transparent. “Diamonds look like they are floating on your fingers,” she said.
